Remembering Matthew Faulkes

It is with great sadness that we remember our friend, colleague and fellow director, Matthew Faulkes, who sadly passed away on 27th May 2026.

Matt was a hugely respected and much-loved member of Carter Towler, having been part of the business for more than 30 years. During that time, he made an outstanding contribution to the firm, to our clients and to the wider property community. His passing is a tremendous loss to everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Matt was an accomplished property professional with extensive experience and expertise across the sector. His multi-disciplinary background, combined with his commercial understanding and practical approach, enabled him to build and lead an exceptionally strong Property Management team. Under his leadership, the department has become one of the most successful independent property management teams outside London.

That success was built on the relationships Matt developed throughout his career. Much of the department’s growth has come through client recommendations and the trust that clients placed in Matt and his team to manage their property interests with care, diligence and commercial awareness. He was committed to delivering effective strategies that minimised risk, managed liabilities and, importantly, supported strong and lasting relationships between landlords and tenants.

Matt was also passionate about finding creative and efficient solutions to the challenges faced by property owners. He understood that successful property management was about far more than the day-to-day running of buildings; it required a broader understanding of an asset, its market and its long-term potential. He worked closely with colleagues across Carter Towler, particularly within Agency and Building Consultancy, sharing ideas, expertise and market insight to ensure clients received a comprehensive and well-rounded service.

But Matt’s contribution to Carter Towler extended much further than his professional expertise.

As a director, he played an important role in the leadership and development of the business. He was someone whose knowledge, judgement and experience were valued by colleagues across the firm, and his influence could be felt far wider than his own department. He was a trusted colleague, a generous mentor and a steady presence within the business.

Beyond his professional achievements and responsibilities, it is the man Matt was that will be remembered most.

Matt was warm, kind, generous and incredibly good company, with a wonderful sense of humour. He had a genuine ability to build friendships and strong professional relationships, and he was held in great affection by colleagues, clients, friends and professional acquaintances alike.

Above all, however, Matt was a devoted family man, and everyone who knew him understood how immensely proud he was of his boys, Thomas and James. The remarkable number of people who came together to celebrate his life was a fitting reflection of the impact he had on those around him.

Matt brought professionalism and expertise to everything he did, but he never lost sight of the importance of people. His warmth, friendship and generosity touched countless lives, and his absence will be deeply felt throughout Carter Towler and across the wider property community.

After more than three decades with the business, Matt leaves behind an enduring professional legacy, but perhaps more importantly, a personal one. He leaves behind the respect, affection and many happy memories of the people who had the privilege of knowing him.

Matt will be greatly missed, and he will never be forgotten.
